WMO coordinates the activities of its Members in the generation and exchange of information on weather, water and climate according to internationally agreed standards; research at national, international and global levels; and the training of professionals to internationally recognized levels; WMO also facilitates the development of services that improve the well-being and safety of communities, nations and the whole of humankind. As member within the IGOS Partnership, the Members of WMO operate collectively the main set of Global Observing Systems in the three Earth's domains - the atmosphere, the ocean and land. This set consists of: World Weather Watch Global Observing System (WWW/GOS), Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW), and World Hydrological Cycle Observing System (WHYCOS), which include several sub-sets and systems. In concert with other IGOS partners, WMO co-sponsors with a number of international organizations additional Global Observing Systems: These include the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) which is also co-sponsored by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (IOC-UNESCO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the International Council for Science (ICSU); the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) with IOC-UNESCO, ICSU and UNEP; and the Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS) with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), ICSU, UNEP, and UNESCO.
